Maverston Golf Course – The Jewel In The Crown of Maverston Highland Estate

The 18-hole, 6335yd Par 71 parkland course makes best use of the gently undulating landscape and offers a challenging, but fair test to all levels of golfer. There is also a 9-hole Par 3 course within the estate giving all categories of golfers a fun day out.

The course has a healthy membership and is open to members and non-members alike, the modern and comfortable clubhouse acts as a halfway hut due to the course being designed in two loops of nine and offers everything a golfer could need for a great day out including a superb range of quality food and beverages made from locally sourced ingredients. The views from the clubhouse over the Morayshire countryside are the perfect way to relax after your game.

The course itself is an excellent test for all, including four par 3’s varying in length from 154 yards to 211 yard and three par 5’s which only the longest hitters will be able to reach in two, a true test of your game.

The course has a perfect balance with shorter par 4’s often being followed by a longer and tougher hole with the par 3’s well spread throughout the layout. Several holes on the course can be deemed as memorable, with the 5th and 7th on the front nine being particular favourites. The par 4 5th hole plays north easterly towards the Moray Firth, the tee shot is well bunkered, and the rolling fairway is finished off with a two-tiered green. The par 3 7th hole plays from an elevated tee over a gully to an elevated green set at an angle to the hole, the steep bank at the back of the green is the perfect backstop.

The feature holes on the back nine would be the par 4 13th, a right to left dogleg over water, not a long hole at 344 yards but one that requires both accuracy and distance control. The eighteenth is a testing 443-yard left-to-right dogleg which makes best use of the natural slopes and offers stunning views of the local area including the neighbouring village of Urquhart.

The course is kept in great condition and being built on a very sand-based subsoil means it remain very dry even after heavy rain, with a very relaxed and family friendly atmosphere, Maverston is a course that will only get better as time goes on. Both membership and daily green fees are very reasonable making the whole experience excellent value for money. But don’t take our word for it, why not come along and enjoy a round or two yourself.
